The start of the silly season...

i have been thinking a lot recently how we often feel compeled to give gifts to so many people at christmas and birthdays etc but really what is the meaning of us giving the gifts... so that you dont get in trouble for not giving a gift? to repay them for something? to say sorry? Shouldnt Christmas be about community and spending time lovingly together rather then just getting more gifts and giving more gifts.

i was asked by a family member what i wanted for christmas and i replied i didnt know and wasnt fussed if i didnt get anything... i was surprised with the response..instead of accepting what i was saying they shut me down saying there must be something i wanted and i had 12 hours to think of what i wanted. i seriously dont see why its such a big deal. if i dont want anything use that money for something more worthwhile. i plan to use whatever im given to good use so it will benefit others rather then me... isnt that the true meaning of christmas?

i hate that everything people do these days are for a purpose volunteer work for ur resume or to help u get an award. extra pocket money if u help out more etc why cant it just be done out of the goodness of ur heart. how many times as anyone stopped and thought... how can i help out because i have to ability to lend a hand rather then what can i get from helping.

i encourage you all this christmas and holiday season to stop and think about why you are getting gifts for people. what are you trying to say through ur actions and how is what u doing benefiting you.

consider giving gifts of time or of ur talent rather then spending up big.
and remember we were given the a pretty amazing gift from God inthe birth of Jesus to rescue us from our sin. and that was done out of love! pretty awesome! Merry Christmas!

For some of you who know me really well, you might be thinking, Nicole has always had a voice. But I want to tell you, this weekend I found my voice. It wasn't really lost, but it wasn't confident. It was hidden behind the fear of being judged or boxed a certain way. Young leaders development...

So I'm a  youth pastor right, it's something that sometimes I say out loud and it still blows my mind. It's something I always wanted to be and I am that now.  I don't know if I'm doing a good job, i thonk I'm doing alright, I might not be as cool or successful as some of my other youth pastor friends but I feel like I'm doing alright.  Last week I went to NYMC Encore which was a day conference for those in youth ministry.  It was a great day and totally worth  coming back the 400kms  to adelaide for the day, I got to see my friends, my family, my support network. But I heard from God too. Both on a personal level and also for my ministry.  One question I am left with after the conference is about young leaders.   Now I would consider myself a young leader. At 21 , I am young, I have been blessed with many leadership opportunities well beyond my years, but in still a young leader . I'm still leading about who I am and my style of leadership.

You make beautiful things You make beautiful things out of the dust You make beautiful things You make beautiful things out of us I was reminded of this song when i was struggling, struggling to see good out of my situation, struggling to see myself in the same way God sees me and struggling to see how God could use me and my situation for good. these lines just went through my head on repeat and i began to again see the beauty in things all around me. Beauty in others, in the environment, in Art, in music, Even beauty in the hard times. I was reminded of Gods great love and how indeed the things in life, in our world which we take for granted are beautiful things which God created. This song played on repeat in my head as i road tripped to Canberra with friends. As we drove through the plains and the hills and through the country i was blessed with such beauty. Even the dust storm had a certain beauty to it :) God makes Beautiful things!!!
